About this trip

You may think you’ve done Paris, but our delightful guide, Ellen Williams, knows Paris like the back of her hand and takes us into the neighborhoods where locals live and play. You’ll come away with wider knowledge of the terrain and a deeper understanding of what makes Paris arguably the most fascinating city in the world.

Click here to watch a video that will introduce you to your guides, give you a feel for the trip and fill you in on the full itinerary.

Ellen is the author of three guidebooks on Paris and she'll take us to lush neighborhoods not normally visited by tourists.  Read the story about our visit to France in 2022.

We Show You the Vibrant Heart of Paris

The itinerary for this Next Tribe Paris adventure is carefully designed to provide a balance of walking through a variety of particularly lovely quartiers, visiting small, lesser-known museums, exploring specially recommended boutiques, and enjoying a select group of cafés, bistros, and brasseries. While this is not a typical sightseeing trip, notable landmarks, and places of interest will be pointed out on all our outings.

NOTE: NextTribe members receive a $100 discount on price.

We will profit from being in the French capital when there’s daylight until almost 10pm, and when the many gardens we’ll pass through will be in full bloom.

We’re mindful that some of you will want more time on your own to wander, while others are more comfortable sticking with the group. We will happily help you arrange visits to any additional sites of particular interest or with tracking down items you may hope to buy.

We’ll provide you with pre-paid transit cards for all our metro and bus travel within the city. You’ll also receive a special Next Tribe Google map for your phone, so that you can easily locate any of the locations we’ll be visiting or share it later with Paris-bound friends. We’ll help you translate menus and speak with the locals, although many of them speak English. Our goal is to transform any Paris anxiety into Paris excitement. If our last 2 trips are any indication, we’re going to have a terrific time together in one of the best places in the world.

We've included a visit on the first afternoon to Monoprix, like a French Target that died and went to heaven. You can stock up here on any Parisian toiletries for your stay, for wonderful snacks for your room, extra socks, whatever.

Why Travel With NextTribe?

NextTribe offers a safe travel environment that through the energy and alchemy of adventurous women turns into a real community in a short amount of time.

On every trip, you will be led by a friendly and fun woman of our own age, who has deep local knowledge and/or roots. She has proved to us that she is responsible, flexible, and truly cares about every traveler, nurturing new friendships and making sure no one feels left out. Other tour companies drop in a local guide who remains apart from the group. Our leader is the glue among the travelers--the person who ensures that this is more than a trip; it's a community of curious, like-minded women on the move.

We are known for group travel for women over 45 who don't normally like group travel. We keep our groups small and know that our guests are curious explorers who can take care of themselves. We allow them space to make the trip their own. You will not be in lockstep on a tight schedule behind a guide. You can roam on your own if you want (with a good GPS and an understanding of how to meet up with the group later) or you can take full advantage of the guide's knowledge of the city.

We do expect our travelers to have a level of self-sufficiency, being able to carry their own bags if need be, and to be respectful of others in the group and open to new experiences and friendships.

What's the definition of travel insurance?

Travel insurance is the coverage for personal risks incidental to, and related to

planned travel, including one or more of the following...

● Cancellation or interruption of a trip or a vacation package

● Accident, sickness, disability, or death occurring during travel

● Delay of an arrival to your trip destination or a return to home

● Loss of baggage/personal effects

● Damage to accommodations or rental vehicles

What is not included in the definition of travel insurance?

The following are excluded from the definition of travel insurance..

● Major medical plans that provide comprehensive medical protection for

travelers on trips that last six (6) months or longer (ie working abroad,

deployed military personnel, missions and volunteering abroad, and more)

● Damage waiver contracts, as defined in paragraph (5) of subdivision (a) of

Section 1936 of the Civil Code. The phrase “damage waiver” or “collision

damage waiver” cannot be used to describe travel insurance coverage, but

the insurance contract may otherwise refer to “damage waiver” or “collision

damage waiver” provided by a company, as defined in paragraph (1) of

subdivision (a) of Section 1936 of the Civil Code.

The sooner you purchase a trip protection style plan, the more it can cover! We recommend purchasing a trip protection style plan within 21 days of making your initial trip payment of any kind for this trip, and prior to making your final pre-trip payment. Please ensure that all the activities you plan on participating in are covered by your travel insurance.

When you purchase it within 21 days of booking (and before your final payment) you can get better coverage

Several people have had to cancel trips because of a death in the family, an injury (one women broke her foot on the way out the door to the airport!) or COVID, and once we enter the non-refundable stage of your booking, we CANNOT refund your trip for any reason.

NextTribe is an affiliate of Allianz, and you can get a quote from them by clicking on the name below. They offer one time policies and annual policies to cover all of your trips in a single year.

Wanderwell

These plans provides insurance coverage that only applies during the covered

trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar

benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other

coverages.

You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life,

health, home, and automobile insurance policies.

If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer or

insurance agent or broker.

When selecting a travel insurance policy, please bear in mind that all travelers are strongly recommended to have medical coverage and that we recommend a minimum coverage of $150,000 USD for travel medical/accident & sickness, and $500,000 USD for emergency medical evacuation and repatriation. It can help for those benefits to be Primary coverage. We strongly recommend that the policy also includes benefits for trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, and some coverage for baggage & personal effects.

Since we are not licensed insurance agents or brokers, we are not allowed to

*Answer technical questions about the benefits, exclusions, and conditions of any of the

insurance offered by the travel retailer.

Welcome to Paris

We'll meet our guide for the week, Ellen Williams, above.  Once we’ve all arrived at the Hotel des Saints-Peres , we’ll gather in the hotel lobby for a welcome lunch while we get acquainted and talk a bit about our legendary quarter, St-Germain-des-Près.

We’ll walk to the nearby Faubourg St-Germain, once the neighborhood of choice for the French aristocracy in elegantly grand city mansions, and tour the Rue du Bac, a super-picturesque Left Bank rue commerçante (commercial street) brimming with gourmet food shops, boutiques, and the amazing Le Bon Marché, one of the oldest (and finest) department stores and food halls, and a detour to Musée Rodin, for the scores of blooming rose bushes in the celebrated sculpture garden.

Our first dinner will be at La Cigalle, a stylish soufflé restaurant near our hotel.

WEDNESDAY, May 15th

Les Halles and Canal St-Martin

We’ll start the day walking through the historic garden of the Palais Royal to visit one of the oldest of the 19th-century covered shopping arcades. From there, we’ll explore the old Les Halles quarter, for centuries the central food market of Paris, where some of the finest culinary stores in the city – including Dehilerin, Julia Child’s favorite cookware shop – continue to operate though the market is long gone.

Then on to lunch at Les Enfants Perdus, a restaurant near the Canal St-Martin that specializes in seasonal ingredients. The picturesque area around the canal is one of the most popular areas of town with Parisians, who gather along the banks to watch barges and other small boats navigate through the locks and pass under graceful cast-iron footbridges along the 200-year-old waterway.

That evening, on the way to dinner at La Fontaine de Mars, a popular traditional French bistro since 1908, we’ll stop to take photos at the foot of the nearby Eiffel Tower.

THURSDAY, May 16th

The Nouvelles-Athènes Quarter

We’ll start the day in the Nouvelles-Athènes quarter, a mid-19th-century neighborhood that was home to some of the greatest artists, writers, and musicians of that era, and today is a trendy gentrifiying area of Lower Montmartre is known as SoPi (South of Pigalle).

Visit to the Musée Gustave Moreau – a wonderfully intimate museum that honors the work of the Symbolist painter whose gorgeous home and studio this was. We’ll take a coffee break at the garden tea salon ofthe nearby Musée de la Vie Romantique, set in a private 19th-century villa, and then tour the lively Rue des Martyrs, one of the most vibrant streets in Paris.

After lunch at Breizh Café, an excellent creperie near the charming Places des Abbesses, we’ll have free time in colorful Montmartre.

Dinner will be at Chez Dumonet, a vintage Left Bank bistro founded in 1898.

FRIDAY, May 17th

Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte

We’ll travel an hour by train to Vaux-le-Vicomte, the exquisite 17th-century chateau and gardens that served as the inspiration for Versailles. We’ll enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch on the grounds designed by the celebrated landscape architect André le Nôtre.

On our return to Paris, we’ll have time to further explore our St Germain quarter before dinner in Montparnasse at La Coupole, the legendary Jazz Age brasserie.

SATURDAY, May 18th

Right Bank, Dior Museum and Sunset Cruise

We’ll spend most of the day in a particularly elegant part of the Right Bank, starting with a tourof the Marché President Wilson, a twice-weekly street market with vendors offering gorgeous food, flowers, clothing, accessories and housewares. For those interested, a detour to the designer resale shops in adjacent Passy, one of the poshest residential areas of town, and a stop at the Hermès flagship to admire the coveted silk scarves.

After lunch at La Mascotte café, we’ll go to the Galerie Dior, the fantastic, newly installed homage to the esteemed couture house.

That evening, we’ll walk to the historic Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris, where we’ll board an hour-long cocktail cruise that will glide us past the great monuments along the Seine, followed by dinner at Le Caveau du Palais on the early-17th-century Place Dauphine. Those interested can easily see the spectacular medieval stained-glass windows nearby at St-Chapelle.

Porte de Vanves Flea Market and the Marais

In the morning, we’ll head to the Porte de Vanves flea market for vintage collectibles, then take a tram to the Marais, where we’ll break for lunch at La Tartine, an art deco wine bar on the Rue de Rivoli.

We’ll visit the Place des Vosges, a lovely square built in the early-17th century by Henri IV for the French aristocracy, and the wonderful Musée Carnavalet, the recently restored Paris history museum. For those interested, this is one of the most stylish shopping districts in the city.

We’ll stroll to the lovely Ile St-Louis, the more intimate of the two Seine islands, with a stop at Berthillon for their celebrated ice cream. Dinner will be at Semilla, a modern restaurant with lighter contemporary cuisine in St Germain.

Whit Monday Celebration and Extra Exploring

Our experience has been that most women prefer a largely loose itinerary on the final day to wander, go to a museum, shop, or return to a place that particularly interested you earlier in the week.

We’ll arrange for a place to meet for lunch or a picnic in the Luxembourg Garden.

Our farewell dinner will at La Petite Chaise, a short walk from the hotel, where we’ll be served in a private room.
