Sultry Savannah: Discovering Deep Southern Charm image

The magic of the Hostess City as seen through the eyes of a friend, not a guidebook

Trip Description

Savannah is known as the Hostess City, and we’re eager to show you why. It oozes Southern enchantment—from the open-arms attitude of the locals to the Spanish moss dripping from canopies of live oaks. Cobblestone streets pass by historic homes in pastel shades and lead through a charming downtown grid that features 22 verdant squares. Jazz, blues and a Gullah dialect are frequently heard around town. Shrimp and grits, biscuits, and a host of other low country specials fill restaurant tables. It’s an old city with a sprightly, insouciant soul.

We’re going to the places and meeting the people specially selected by Beverly Willett, a NextTriber and author who wants you to see her city not as a tourist, but as a friend.

"I hope you'll fall in love with Savannah the way I have," Beverly shares. "It's like having all the cultural richness of New York nestled in the natural beauty and gentle climate of the South. It is colorful and quirky, with pockets of old-world gentility."

We’ll be there in early March when it’s not too hot, not too cold. Just right.

We have easy, interest-free payment options.

Please note that this is a sample itinerary. Accommodations and activities may change but we will always replace them with something of equal or better value.

Indigo Dyeing and Island Adventures

Discover the story of indigo, once a major cash crop in Georgia's Lowcountry alongside rice. Enslaved Africans brought invaluable knowledge of indigo cultivation and dye-making techniques that shaped the region's history. At the Beach Institute—Savannah's premier African-American museum—you'll learn this fascinating history through a hands-on dyeing workshop.

Later, we'll take to the water for an afternoon exploring the barrier islands and tidal marshes. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, sea turtles, and osprey as we visit pristine beaches accessible only by boat—perfect for beachcombing and soaking in the natural beauty.

Dinner awaits at another fantastic woman-owned restaurant.

Cemetery Stories, Literary Lunch & Cooking Together

Start the morning in Bonaventure Cemetery with a master storyteller who'll weave tales of notable residents, stunning funerary art, and the legends that made this "garden of good and evil" famous worldwide.

For lunch, author Beverly Willett opens her home to us for an intimate gathering where local writers will share their work and talk about what makes Savannah so special to them.

The day ends with a hands-on cooking class led by an entertaining local chef. Together, we'll create a delicious Lowcountry feast—then sit down to enjoy it family-style. Because the best meals are shared with new friends.

NextTribe

For most of history, women past child-bearing years were basically put out to pasture. This was happening even in our mothers’ time. We call bullshit on that. We believe we are at a peak in so many ways and are devoted to helping women our age live the richest, most kick-ass lives possible.

We do that by informing, promoting and connecting women–through our magazine, through our member community and through the transformative experiences of travel.

So many travel choices…so little time. You could spend days and days trying to put together just the right combination of destination, activities, and price.

Or you could stop shopping and start traveling with us for something that feels like the greatest girlfriend trip ever–even if you come solo. We specialize in experiences that deeply connect you to other women–travelers and locals–and create life-lasting memories. Experiences you can’t get on your own. And do it all with flexible payment options.

This video will tell you if you’re a good fit for a NextTribe trip. We are proud that we’ve become known for how quickly and deeply our groups of women bond on our trips. One of our rules: No divas, please.
